553 foot pounds of torque, and just under 600 horse power. Cot DAYUM this is sexy. And will be the first thing I buy if I get this new sales gig on Wednesday.
Without AWD, there wouldn’t be enough traction to make use of that 600hp, unless you want the car to just lose control like Viper or Dodge Demon. When not near the limit, the car is supposed to behave like a RWD car, according to BMW, for what it’s worth.
Late model Vipers were actually pretty well planted. But they also had 14" wide rear tires. You can always use all that HP, you just can’t use it all on the launch, same with most high performance track oriented cars. Once you get on the roll it’s there for the top of gears.
Performance difference is practically irrelevant between these two cars - both are too fast to use 100%. However, the Mercedes will be better to sit in. BMW claims they want to be practical or something, but the truth is, their interior is just not as good as Mercedes or Audi.
I can’t even imagine spending 2k a month on a car. I think I’d have to make Ohai level money (salary, not investment income) before I’d even consider it. Isn’t the average BMW buyer only making 150k?
Why you want to drive such an excessive car anyway? It’s huge, probably not as engaging as other BMWs, and you’ll worry about it every time you park in a public place. Speaking of which, 2019 3 Series came out, and it is bigger than the 5 Series from 10 years ago. Now, BMW doesn’t offer any compact RWD 4-door cars in the US. Sad!
No M badge… no care. But I do agree with you on this - I would buy the M340i and then upgrade the shit out of it. But unless we’re talking under a 3.5 second 0-60 sprint… then IDFWY.
