The Movie Thread

I second Deadpool, and I don’t really like superhero films. Probably going to give Batman vs Superman a miss.

Loving the Brokeback Mountain chat, I thought it was a great movie. Interesting to see a different take on a love story. Crazy that Crash beat it at the Oscars, that film was barely memorable.

hometown film for me is Trainspotting, pretty much captures the essence of the place.

  1. Watched “Here Comes the Boom” (2012) over the weekend. No matter how old she gets, Salma Hayek is still hot. She looks as good as she did in “Jay and Silent Bob”.

  2. Watched “The Uninvited” (2009) over the weekend. It was also pretty good. I’d recommend everybody watch it once.

Wife and kids were out of town again this weekend. Got a little movie-watching done.

Watched the first hour of “Artificial Intelligence”. Couldn’t take it anymore after that. Too slow, too boring.

Watched the first ten minutes of “Tropic Thunder”. (Ben Affleck, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr.) That was enough of that.

Watched “Unbroken”. I didn’t DVR this one, but rather, just happened to catch it as it came on. So it was more of an “accidental” viewing. But it was a pretty good movie, and I would recommend to anybody. The fact that it was a true story makes it even better.

Watched “The Departed”. This was a good one-time movie. Most Scorsese films are.

^Tropic Thunder is good. You should have stuck with it if for no other reason than Tom Cruise’s cameo. Best thing he’s done other than Risky Business.

I watched The Hateful Eight over the weekend. Really cool flick. Haven’t seen a Whodoneit like that in a long time. Pretty much The Thing but set in the Old West.

Tom Cruise in this was so hilarious it made up for the rest of the movie not being very good IMO. The bit he did for the MTV movie awards was pretty slick as well

^Funny you guys mention it. I turned it off shortly after that scene, and deleted the movie.

After I deleted it, I read the Wikipedia entry. After I saw that Tom Cruise was the producer, I went back and un-deleted it. (With my box, you can un-delete within 24 hours). I didn’t recognize him at all the first time. I had to listen to his voice to see if it was really him.

I watched Spotlight recently, very good film but obviously quite difficult to watch in parts. Might not move to Boston after all.

Some others that are currently on the DVR:

  • Live Free or Die Hard (I heard this one sucked, but I’m gonna watch it anyway, because it’s Die Hard)
  • Babel
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • San Andreas (which I normally wouldn’t have watched, except I accidentally turned it on, and Alexandra Daddario was running, and certain body parts were jigglind and bouncing, and it was hard to turn off)

BTW–anybody seen Batman vs. Superman? I kinda wanted to watch it, but since I read the reviews, I said “Forget it.”

I like the Christopher Nolan Batmans movies, but the last Superman movie really sucked. Action scenes were waaaaay too long, and there were waaaay too many of them.

^^RE: Mad Max: Fury Road - I watched that a month or two ago. I had zero expectations and was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. The visuals, music, sound mixing…all of it is amazing. Non-stop action too.

On Batman vs Superman, I really wanted this to be good but I refuse to see it for the same reasons. Sounds like it’s horrible.

Don’t know if I mentioned Deadpool previously or not. Really great flick.

wife and kids are out of town and you’re at home watching movies Greeney? I’d be beating the brakes off some 19 year old if I were in your shoes

hateful eight yes

tropic thunder yes

sicario yes

btw Greenman are there massage parlors in your town where you can go to relax and unwind?

^probably, but I’m guaranteed a happy ending if I watch “Unbroken”

^lol. but a good massage is needed once a month. it will loosen you up and you will feel like a new man.

Just so ya know…I have never seen “The Big Lebowski”. Is that a must-watch? Or can I just skip it and move on?

It’s not the greatest movie of all-time, or really even in the top 50. But, you do need to watch it. There are too many iconic characters and scenes to miss.

Come on now Greenie. Did you never go to college?

Do yourself a favour and pour yourself a white russian, make yourself a huge big sandwich and watch it tonight.

I assume you’re implying he get high af. That’s really the only way to watch it.

It’s a must-watch.

I was expecting to really like Sicario. Found it just okay.
