This is the most hacksaw choice they could have possibly made. The only reason that they made this selection is that it would be crazy to choose any single human than Trump, who they don’t want to select. Even if you hate the guy, he is without question the person who has had the most influence on the state of the world. Biased media indeed.

Ok fair enough. I’d say if not Trump, it would have to be Xi Jin Ping. People here don’t seem to realize, but he is becoming the most powerful Chinese leader in decades. He might be the world’s most powerful person now.
most people here do realize he is the most powerful chinese leader since Chairman Mao - i even read an article that he is using very similar methods to reinforce his image in the same way Mao did.
Saying Trump would be easy in the same way it would be basically always easy to pick the US president. Trump, while controversial, hasnt really accomplished a whole lot this year.

I disagree. Trump is not the same as Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, or other conventional politicians. He upended the US political system and its traditional way of doing things might never recover. He did this with 10% of the budget of his competitors. Even in policy, his approach to foreign relations and domestic issues is radically different from any other likely President. Not only will US elections never be the same again, but America’s place in the world has changed as well. He should be the person of the year (again) due to his continued profound impact on the world, for better or worse.
Time could have disagreed with this assessment, and chose another person. However, there was no logical choice, so they bailed and chose no one.
I agree with Ohai. He has shattered norms. I’ve been to a dozen countries this year and everyone has opinions and thoughts on Trump. It’s everywhere. I bet he’s even partly responsible for the silence breakers…

wasnt he person of the year last year? isnt that what it was for? he upended the system last year - this year its been him using his bully pulpit & reversing obamas executive orders with no significant wins yet (unless you consider erroneous tweets wins)
I agree with last year, but not this year. Xi would be a choice thats hard to argue with, Kim Jung Un would as well.

The average person does not know what Antifa is. More importantly, Antifa is not a person. Why don’t we just say “Syria” is the person of the year or something.
Like I said, choosing a group of people is a cop out. They could not think of a better person than Trump, so they abstained from choosing.
Also, Trump continues to break the mold of his office. He not only won the election unconventionally, but he continues to be unconventional. Fringe politicians who win in other countries all become normal once in office. Trump did not become normal. Running his administration in this way is a separate action from winning the election through a radical campaign.
Trump is a pioneer and after a few generation go by, he will get the credit he deserves.
