I keep going back and forth between whether or not to put Level 1 candidacy on my resume. It’s definitely clear how it can go both ways. What are all your opinions?
The only purpose it serves is a space filler. If you really don’t have anything else to fill your resume with, use it as a last resort
I would say no, do not list it. Any monkey with a grand can sign up for L1. I would bring it up during the course of your interview but there is no reason to list L1 candidacy on your resume.
if you are relatively young (college senior or very recent grad), I vote for including on the CV as I think it shows some initiative and awareness that the program exists. otherwise, i’d leave it off until passing LI

Also, if you’re just trying to get your foot in the industry’s door, it’s fine to list it.
Of course when you are a level 2 candidate you can tout your intellectual superiority over those pesky level 1 candidates according to the SOPH. Haha.
Since I am a college senior applying for internships, I guess I’ll just keep it on there. I have it listed under education as Professional Development: Chartered Financial Analyst Program Level 1 Candidate. Should I throw the date of the exam in there? Or just leave it be?
What do you write if you passed level 1 but have yet to sign up for level 2?

^^^ Refer to the Standards of Practice on how you can portray this on your resume. If an actual CFA holder reads your resume and you have misrepresented in any way, they might throw your resume in the round file out of principle.
I would include it.
You don’t want to jinx it either.

When I was looking for my first job I was a CFA Level I candidate and it was brought up during the 2 different interviews. It’s not a credential, but it shows interest. I say put it.
I would include it. It shows initiative, and your serious about the field.
