Transition to Equity Research at 35 from Wealth Management

Any advice out there for how to go about transitioning to equity research from wealth management at age 35? I do not have an MBA, and I’m working on the CFA (level 2 passed) hoping that might open some doors.

I am open to buy or sell side. I would ideally like to be a PM on the buy side long term, but sell side seems like a better opportunity for networking and digging deep on companies.

Another big hurdle is geography. My wife works at Penn so I’m locked into Philadelphia. No discounts to Wharton and I’m sure no preferential treatment either if you guys are thinking what I thought initially when she got the job.

Thanks in advance for any tips…

Why?

My understanding is that there are a fair number of foundation type places in Philly. They don’t jizz comp the way hedge funds do, but it is asset management and the work/life balance isn’t as murderous.

I bet you the OP is 36 or 37 now.

Janney montgomery scott. If you’re still alive…

How old are you ? Did you manage to do the transition ?

You didn’t get the joke. It happens.
