Vital Source Bookshelf

Anybody using this software to view the materials at work/on the road ? I’ve downloaded all the material but the books can’t be opened with Adobe Acrobat, they MUST be opened with the crappy program by Vital Source. Has anyone figured out a way arround this? or a way to zoom in with the Vital Source program? I love having the books in PDF, but not being able to zoom in makes them useless

I use the website. love it. the software sucks because it doesnt sync and too bulky. online doesnt zoom either, sometimes text too small sometimes too big

Does anybody know how to extract the materials from Vital Source to PDF, thus allowing you to zoom?

If you have PDF writer, you just print from Vital Source to PDF. Not sure if there are any copyright issues with doing this though…

Hi Matt, they have Vitalsource Bookshelf for iphone/ipod touch/ipad now. You can zoom to view as well as view the highlights/notes you have made on PC/Mac’s vitalsource Bookshelf or Internet’s bookshelf. But you cannot add/edit highlights/notes on your mobile device.

Right. Initially I wanted to get Iphone 4 just for this purpose. But I guess the most important is just to print the EOC questions on PDF and we can do it on all phones. The BAII plus for Iphone do comes in handy though.

OK, i downloaded the Vitalsource Bookshelf on my iphone, but am unable to download the books. It keeps on failing. You will get an error if you try to download on 3g and on wifi, it just fails after a while. Anyone tried this?

Vitalsource sucks donkey balls. We should have gotten more money off. You can barely read it.

I can barely stand this on my 27 inch screen…how can you use it on a phone?

Haven’t been able to see it on the phone yet, although I don’t see such an issue with the quality on my 15" laptop.

Hi, you need to “add” it using iTunes. see bottom right picture http://www.vitalsource.com/iphone

Yes, Vital Bookshelf just does a poor job, I can believe it.

So I convert it into PDF files, and convert the PDF into searchable format, now I can freely highlight, adding note, and without using Vital at all!

Aspenbench,

Could you please explain the process of converting the Vital Bookshelf into PDF files?

I was able to “print to PDF” but then the files were images and I was not able to freely highlight or search for text.

I am hoping to get it on my ipad and would have been super happy if the Vital Bookshelf app allowed me to highlight or search for text, but unfortunately it doesn’t support that.

So I am at the point where I have it converted to a PDF but it is basically an image file and I cannot do any text editing with it.

I have access to a windows and mac machine, please let me know which you are using and which programs.

Edit: Never mind I just realized that you can highlight and search for text on the Vital Bookshelf ipad App!

Sweet!

Thanks,
