Vote as if

Greenie, this doesn’t seem very Texas of you.

G must be killer among the Facebook mom community.

There’s actually a story behind this. But I wanted to get comments from the peanut gallery first.

If everyone read that and really thought about it, we might have 100% of the population voting to re-elect President Trump. There is no better candidate

Thanks, hp!

I needed a good laugh today.

What if your transgender child wanted to join the military?

waht child? he would prolly disown and pretend it never happened.

OK. Here’s the story. My cousin posted that on Facebook. She’s 32 (I think) and has a PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology (whatever that means). And she was raised by pretty conservative parents, who now have a strong libertarian bent to them.

Normally, when I see this kind of stupid sh!t, I just ignore it and move on. But this time, I felt compelled to ask about it, since I was really not expecting to see this from somebody in my family, raised in rural Texas.

I asked, “None of those things apply to me. Therefore, why should I vote as if they do?” And her answer was (as best I can understand it), “There are other people in the world that are in this position, and you should put yourself in their shoes when you vote.” Then she said that my response “reeks of inherent privilege and I don’t care if the policies that benefit me harm those who are more vulnerable than me.”

Anyway, I just wanted to see if this particular meme/political slogan was as stupid to the rest of the world as it was to me, or if it actually holds any merit.

You should reply back, “thank you for posting it. I was really conflicted on who to vote for but now it’s clear that I should vote for President Trump and tell all my friends and family to do the same. Tanks again!”

Does it hold any merit?

As with most things shared on facebook, it’s something dumb that’s built on a kernel of something sound.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veil_of_ignorance might be the most applicable concept behind it.

imo, you should always put yourself in other people’s shoes because it helps you understand them. sympathy is a very important trait to have because it allows you to understand what people want. with that said, you dont necessarily have to crusade for them. sometimes all they want to hear from you is that you listened and feel bad for them. you dont necessarily have to give them money or help them.
reminds me when i went to a forced religious retreat. it was all good and all but at the end they were asking people for money to help finance more in the future. i was confused why so many people gave money. they are literally paying this organization to force others in the future. my fiance felt bad for them and wanted to give them money. but i was like we cannot because i do not support this mandatory stuff.
Also a simple coutnerargument for that quote is this one i heard in middle school::
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

â– â– â– â–  communist.

Lol, I actually agree with Nery!

The simple message behind the meme is ancient: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The actual meme itself is somewhat cringe inducing. Greenie or HP lack of comprehension of this message makes them seem like sociopaths without empathy.

Yeah but let’s take an example: I take the naive meme to heart and vote for a candidate who is really gong-ho about transgender rights. I live in Europe where the gov’t provides health care. My candidate wins and changes the health care policy so that sexx-change surgeries will become a part of public health care, which is paid for by taxes. Everyone applauds this progessive victory!! But this money is away from somewhere else. It’s away from better hospitals, schools, teachers’ salaries, grandpa Jack’s retirement home, etc. These are hidden consequences which very few talk about because they are not evident. So instead of trying to be progressive and try to make everyone happy, be a realist and vote for a candidate whose policies will improve as many lives as possible.

Please use a real example and not a dumb one.

The two are not mutually exclusive. EG - the Green New Deal

That was a real example…except that the said candidate didn’t get to implement his policies because he lost.

That font is horrible. Should have used Comic Sans.

Who were the candidates?
