Is this a thing? Saw a few articles throwing this around. Seems like a decent pick that would rile up the left but at the same time clearly controversial and would stir up some old demons. To the Americans out there, do you think having her on the ticket is good, bad, neutral?
I think it’s good. I’m not an American, though
She’s smart, witty and clever. She’s probably ambitious as well. The only downside I see is that Biden’s chances of winning (IMO) are rather slim and she is going to go down with him. Her career in politics will be determined by this election.
I think so too, and it would at least give Biden a fighting chance. But doing some more reading on it now, looks like slim odds that she steps in the ring.
I wonder how many voters are swayed by the candidate’s choice of running mate.
That’s kind of what I’m getting at. Seems every election a big deal is made of the running mate, but more often than not it has no impact (save for maybe Sarah Palin, who was a terrible choice). Generally candidates go for the “safe pick”, which is usually a nondescript late 60s / early 70s white guy. Pretty much every VP in recent memory fits this bill, including Biden himself.
In this case I do actually think Michelle could move the needle. In part because of her own prowess, and in part because of Barack behind the curtain.
Very few, I think. You vote for the candidate, not the potential VP, nor the P + VP combo.
You’ve got to ask, what voters does she bring in who wouldn’t otherwise vote for Biden?
Biden’s VP pick is fairly important, given that he’s cuckoo for cocoa puffs these days hence there seems a higher than normal probability that he wouldn’t serve a full term.
I don’t think it’s so much who would vote for Biden with Michelle who otherwise wouldn’t, it’s more so motivating those people to actually go and vote. Biden doesn’t seem like an overly inspiring character. Maybe she eliminates some of the apathy, but maybe not.
We could ask John McCain.
Scum.
If that’s your definition of scum you’re betting on the wrong horse, brother.
We could ask John McCain.
indeed, the only time songbird was leading in the polls was immediately after he picked an actual conservative (and a woman to boot) to be his running mate.
Following the pick, McCain came from eight points behind to take the lead
