Ill tell you this ladies and gentlemen, breaking a 70% in the am is difficult, and my practice q’s are all over the map, some great, some not… What do you think we really have to make on this thing to pass?
With 100% certainty I can say…it is eleventy.
80%
Can tell… It all gets tweaked after you’ve written the paper. stop fretting and just hit the questions. All we know is if you hit 70%, you’ll be fine. Turn it round. You can screw up 1 out of every 4 questions and be just fine. Just think yourself lucky that we don’t have to do anything important if that’s the acceptable failure rate.
65%
61.5%
If you take the 40/60/80 rule from last years results, the pass rate was 64-65% ish. However, there was one person who scored a 66% I believe and was band 10 so it’s not an exact measure. Just aim for 70% and then it’s easy.
40/60/80 rule was based on a multiple choice format, doesn’t work at L3.
Why doesn’t it work? Your given the amount for each question separated for both AM and PM. Last year I got 61% using 40/60/80.
depending on the corridor width.
Hi guys what is this 40/60/80 rule?? thanks
65%
I would guess around 70%, maybe a hair less. Am I the only one who thinks the morning session is easier than the afternoon? I’ve only taken the CFAI 2010 AM so far (plus Schweser’s volume 1) and it was a real confidence-booster compared to some of the multiple choice mocks/practice exams.

I agree, it is more straightforward. On the afternoon, there are going to be 2 choices that sound correct.
Also agree re AM. My schweser AM’s are running ~80%. My pm’s ~70%
I don’t understand how you can get 80% on the AM and get 70% on the PM for Schweser’s. Kabaka scan me one of your AM answers. I’ll be an impartial grader for you! I just find it really difficult to see how thats possible.

Looking at scores last year they are stingy with partial credit. Although Schweser AM Book 1 Part 2 was very easy.
I think that these are very high. Even Schweser admits that the probable passing score is about 55 to 65. I have heard horror stories about people who felt they bombed on the exam and still did well. I believe that if you are getting in the 70%'s on the practice exams, that is the average for most posters and that should be a good benchmark for the exam.

I don’t think I’m being generous with my grading… I seem to be underscoring on the Ethics in Schweser PM by a few points. That and FI seems to be bringing my score down a bit. Both of those (obviously Ethics) are more heavy in the PM. AM to me seems to be about 40% or so weighted to Individual/Institutional IPS. I seem to be doing ok there.
No prob, just offering the help. But seriously don’t underestimate the morning session. It is really tough on exam day. The time pressure seriously makes the exam completely different. I normally finish my AM sessions now in 1.5-1.75 hours and last year it took me 2h45min and I was one of the few that actually finished the exam. Most people left out the final two questions. Thats why now I am super critical in grading my morning sessions. Unless I write exactly the same thing as the answer key or I know 110% the other two advantages are advantages, but aren’t listed, then I give myself limited partial marks.
