When do you guys think things will pick up in finance again?
Come on cpham, we’re in the middle of a good IHIHM-numi Saturday fight and you ask for a job? There are no jobs, so make sure you keep yours.
When will the next asset bubble occur? Currently the proper number of finance people (or at least within 5-10% of it) are actually employed. Any incremental jobs beyond that number is reflective of another asset bubble so those jobs are somewhat temporary to begin with.
^agree. many of us will have to change fields. if I get laid off first place I look for a job is gov’t. maybe it will be nice to not have to worry about silly little things like competition and profits.
“Currently the proper number of finance people (or at least within 5-10% of it) are actually employed” I disagree slightly. I recall a recent BB article about how job openings at banks are higher than they have been for some time. This is evidence that banks are still delaying hiring because of market uncertainty. We should not expect jobs to go back to 2007 levels any time soon. However, I don’t think we are really back to equilibrium levels just yet.
