Which Lecturer CD’s are best? Schweser or Stalla?

Has anyone tried Level2 June’10 Schweser or Stalla Lecturer CD? Could you suggest, which one should I consider for the Lecturer CD? I am buying Schweser notes and Q-bank anyway, but not sure about Lecturer CD? Thanks in advance for your help!

I used the schweser’s video last year for L2 and I found them well worth the money. I found the videos more effective than the LIVE classes. Highly recommended…

Thanks Round 2. Is it comparatively better than Stalla? Becoz I know, Stalla’s Peter Olinto CDs are good, but I haven’t tried Schweser CDs before. Since I am taking Schweser notes and Q-bank, if I take as a Schweser premium package I can get a better rate. Pls advice.

Why does anyone need the videos anyway? Barely any information is retained relative to actually reading the material. May be a waste of time in my opinion. On another related topic, a friend gave me schweser notes for 2009 exams. Can I fully utilize it to pass the 2010 exams?

Dude notes are self customized.

Auro - I have not used Stalla so I can not comment but if you are going with Schweser study notes and qbank go for the Premium Package with videos. They mixed up the SS with different instructors and you will get a good mix. I will be using my '09 videos to help me prepare for ‘10. Jackofalltrades- videos are optional and may not be for everyone. For me… personally it was a good way to sum up my chapter readings and I do think there is a retention factor watching someone discuss the LOS’ . I did the live lectures for L1 and I found them to be ineffective because you are on their schedule and a good majority of the class time is listening to other students asking lot’s of questions that they could have answered if they just read the readings before class. As for the '09 study notes, that is a big gamble that I was not willing to take. I just received my 2010 study notes and I started equity and derivatives and so far deja vu comes to mind. But I think inorder to beat this exam, you need to focus on the CFAI text material and the EOC questions. Do not rely solely on the study notes or qbank.

I do understand the notes are customized. But clearly, there is a huge overlap in terms of LOS and that is what I am trying to point out, Abi. Round 2 - I completely agree with your assessment. On the notes, since you feel it is deja vu, I would surmise that you pretty much seeing the same thing as last year, and therefore would lead me to believe that I can use the older notes (just so I can enhance my retention of the general concepts).

Sorry I misread the post. I thought your were studying your friend’s hand made notes.

For me, I can’t concentrate and read the books for too long, sometimes the subject is too dry to keep my attention. I would prefer to hear lectures so that I can retain more compared to just reading. Anyway thanks all for your inputs, I bought Schweser premium package with lecturer CDs, however, lecture CDs are not available in Singapore. Thus, hope to collect around Decemeber.

I used the videos (Schweser) to pass all 3 levels. Now I did come in with a strong accounting background and a lot of relevent experience. For me I always learned best from a good instructor rather than a boring text. When I watched the videos I took handwritten notes on everything to reinforce the info, stopping and replaying sections, or referring to a text when I needed more than the video offered. We all learn in different ways, It’s a matter of what works for you.

gotta say that Olinto is way more fun than that boring Schweser guy…he makes you wanna sleep after 5 min

How does one watch the .nrg file extension videos over the computer? Is there a special video player/program that is freely downloadable?

So how does one try to listen to those CDs over the iPod? Thanks!

Peter Olinto is a mack. I like Stalla, but haven’t used Schweser - I hear there used to be a hot chick on the front, but she’s gone now too which leads me once again to Stalla.
