Which programming language for a hedgefund / fintech career?

Hello,

I’m currently studying for the CFA and my goal is it to start my own hedgefund or fintech. Unfortunately I’m not a programmer and but I am eager to learn a programming language. Which language would you recommend, I thought about Matlab, Pyhton, VBA (in addition).

Thank you and good luck

Just learn some Excel and put MS Office proficiency on your resume. Problem solved.

VBA, python and maybe R?

Python seems to be a good starting point for most people.

If you have the patience, I’m sure learning C++ right out of the gate will serve as a good foundation and make future languages generally easier to learn.

Python is the worst language ever to learn for beginners. If you want to learn driving like a pro you should avoid automatic cars and stick to manual, the same is true for python. Makes you lazy and less creative, start C++ , pm me if you need resources

My issue with the question is that “learn programming” is like step #70 out of 900 that OP needs to complete to reach that goal.

good

You should learn some C and Assembly to get as close to the processor as possible and tweak those execution speeds. That should get the LPs queuing up in no time.

I am afraid that C might not be fast enough for OP, suggest that he should go straight to Hdl so he can get his algorithms running on a fpga
