How many hours did you all study for the CAIA L2 exam? I understand that it was much harder than L1. Any advice? Thanks
Hi Nep-hi, I studied probably twice as much as I did for Level I. I would say around 300 hours. Test will probably harder this time around since they’ve eliminated the formula sheet for the exam. I’ll let you know how successful I was once the CAIA website is back up and running and I can find out how I did today.
Thanks Lan81. 300 would be exactly twice of level 1 for me too…hahaha I’m worried with the new text books out that the exam will be even more difficult to predict what they want you to know. I will totally miss the formula sheet. Good luck to you today and everybody else!
I studied about the same(150/300). But level 2 studying was really unfocused. I felt LOs were really vague or too many tasks in one objective. Nep-hi…I don’t think you should be worried about the new textbooks. I personally think it’s great to have textbooks because they tell the story slow(not saying you should read everything) and the layout of the chapters allow you to remember the big picture better for easier/more retention. I printed the March Study Guide a few weeks ago and did a brief scan of the LOs. It seems they’ve omitted a lot of the convertible arbitrage material which was really dense. I think the March exam will be much easier because of that and the other things i’ve mentioned.
Thanks JaRvRy! I’m glad about the convertible arb being downsized, thanks for the observation. Got to figure how to cough up 300 hrs for March and not be too burn out for my second CFA L2 in June. What fun to come…haha
We’re in the same boat, Nep-hi. CFA 2 and CAIA 2 makes it twice as fun in 2010. Make sure you focus and study swiftly for CAIA 2. It’s really easy to get lost in the material and kill countless hours like i did…
I’m getting stressed out just thinking about both of them. How to do this and time it right??? Any ideas or comments? I’m thinking: Option 1 Start CAIA L2 Nov 1–Dec 31 Switch to CFA L2 Jan-Feb Switch back to CAIA L2 for 2weeks for March exam Switch back to CFA L2 for June Option 2 Start CFA L2 Nov1–Dec 31 Switch to CAIA L2 Jan-March Back to CFA for June Option 3 CFA June, move CAIA to September [this would take up much more time with an opportunity cost]
Option 2
Any one contemplating CAIA Level 2 in March and FRM Level 1 in June. I have signed up for CAIA level 2 and am contemplating taking FRM level1. Hope kaplan comes out with the study guide fast.
