I find that the old golfers warning of ātheyāre only flirting for their tipsā is 100% true.

Tis the season folks. I imbibed some 10 year Eagle Rare after Thanksgiving dinner for the first time. It was definitely a bourbon to be thankful for.
opened a bottle of Lagavulin 16 and JW Green label (post-revival) over the weekend.
Green is very drinkable, smoother than Black and reasonably priced. Good blend.
Forgot how smooth the Lagavulin is - I am a peat drinker but it didnāt seem like I was drinking a peat whisky. Mayhaps my tastebuds are gone but everytime I have this it reminds me why this is considered one of the GOATs that transcends the peat/sherry debate.
Duty Free didnāt have Dalwhinnie, so I invested in an Oban 14 instead.
Iām just back from a trip to Islay, what a fucking beautiful place. Can you think of a better way to spend a day than walking along the rugged coastline from Laphroaig to Lagavulin to Ardbeg sampling all their whiskies and ending with a late lunch at Ardbeg of some of the best seafood youāre ever likely to taste?
If you ever go to Islay, pay a visit to Bruichladdich. Theyāre really doing things differently and some of their whiskies are mindblowing. They are pretty generous with the samples as well, unlike all the other distilleries they give you free tastings. Bunnahabhain was also brilliant, their 12 and 18 malts are pretty special.
I came away with a pretty good haul of bottles which are all tucked away in my hoose in the highlands waiting for me. happy days.
Does sound awesome.
had the boys round for poker and cracked open some of my Islay bottles:
Port Charlotte 10 year 2nd limited edition - Iām just going to say it, this was my favourite highly peated whisky ever. smokey but so smooth and vanilla on the finish.
Bowmore 15 - I prefer it to the 18, probably my all time favourite whisky. Toffee and cream and sherry. I could drink this every day of my life and be happy.
Bowmore Warehousemenās - I liked it so much i bought 3 bottles.
Kilchoman 2009 - Fruity with soft peat - this distillery is onto a good thing
Laphroaig Carideas Quarter Cask - Iām not a huge fan of laphroaig 10 but every single whisky Iāve tasted from this distillery has been brilliant. This was amazing, like diving face first into a pear bog
Right lads, got a recommendation for you: Benromach 15.
An absolute belter of a whisky, rich as ā ā ā ā , smooth and delicious. itās got a very very subtle smokey hint that really only rounds out the flavour which is exceptionally complex and layered.
Also liking Glenturret sherry cask at the moment, it needs a wee drop of water. oldest distillery in Scotland allegedly
Edit - how is f.e.c.k picked up by the language filter? Thatās racist bruv
I opened a Bowmore 12 a couple of days ago. The first dram was not good: smokier than I expected and an almost medicine-y taste. I just had a second sample: it has mellowed some.
