Why Is Level 2 Only Offered One Time Per Year?

I know this is a lame questions. But, I have no idea what the answer is. Why does CFAI only offer Level 2 one time per year, while level 1 is offered every six months? Thanks

if u follow cricket… if ball is pitched outside leg u cant be given lbw…

Cricket is so gay…

Because it takes CFAI so long to grade it??

Seriously, WTF is he talking about? LOL

basically there are rules, how stupid they seem, there is no point in arguing over them… gave u one example from cricket… i think u guys dont know cricket…first sentence in my post was be bothered only if u know cricket

ah, make sense

I disagree… One does not need to accept regulations if they do not serve them well…this is the spirit of free world…I think we need to speak/get CFAI viewpoint and challenge it if necessary…the more people get involved, the better the chance of changing this. I think it sucks especially now we have more people taking the exam around the whole than before.

i think it may have to deal with enhancing the exam’s exclusivity factor. i guess not making it as freely available as the gmat or cpa puts the exam’s perception on a higher pedestal. i don’t see any monetary gain from this rule so the example above is the best i can think of.

Because this makes it harder to get the designation and deters people from taking 5 tries to pass each level of the CFA exam. CFAI probably doesn’t want to spend 2x as much time grading the exams (maybe 2 month turnaround would be unfeasible for L2 and L3.

@ 23adam I’m not saying I agree or disagree with the content of sameeragarwal’s message, just his analogy makes sense to me. @ niraj_a GMAT is not qualitatively the same type of test as CFA. GMAT is supposed to be an aptitude test, not a test of a body of knowledge. Anyways, I really wish they make the CFA exam harder (it’s not that difficult now), reduce the pass rates (35% to 60% pass rate is a joke), but make all levels available twice a year (so that some inopportune event won’t derail you for an entire year - at L2 and L3).

@sublimity in the GMAT, you need to brush up on your high school quant skills, and learn GMAT-specific verbal skills to fare anywhere close to 700. that requires a certain amount of time to be spent learning the rules (especially applicable to the verbal section), and then a certain amount of time in practice. so, even though GMAT tries to be an aptitude test, it is really not, and just like any other college-entrance test, it is flawed and can be beaten by learning what GMAT likes/wants to see i.e. body of knowledge. i jumped from a 560 to a sub-700 score by “studying”, that doesn’t mean my aptitude changed in 3 months, go figure. that said, i agree with you that offering L2 and L3 twice a year would be beneficial.

ah, i can see your point of view and i take back my view “body of knowledge” for the GMAT can include: - the actual material tested (vocabulary, math rules, etc.) - the shortcuts, tricks, etc. that maximizes your score

The paper checking vending machine does not work well in the chills of Dec/Jan. So they prefer grading in June/July and not conk-out those anachronic devices.

Hey Niraja…how did you prepare for the GMAT the second time compared to the first time…what lessons did you learn, did you take any prep courses etc etc…hit me at fadam23@gmail.com or thru AF - maybe I should start a new thread on this.

@23adam gmail chat invite sent buddy.

i think this is a valid point. spreading out L2 and L3 forces those who failed to either 1) forget parts of the bok and have to restudy or 2) study all year in order not to forget anything. if it were offered more frequently, a person could just plug away and (probably) eventually pass. also take into consideration that it takes cfai a long time to develop good test questions. even though it may seem like they do, they don’t just throw any random fact on the test with a list of possible answers. they research which incorrect answers candidates are likely to choose and what wording is likely to lead them astray. i’m sure its harder to develop those questions for L2 and L3 vs L1. so, again, someone could just plug away and eventually see (or read on af) all of the possible questions in the cfai qbank.
