Germany advances in almost every scenario, but wins the group with a draw, so it’s in their best interests to cut a deal with the US and agree to a draw where no one gets hurt or has to expend a lot of effort. US also needs to be happy with just moving on. I could easily see a situation where Germany puts it to them, Ghana wins, and US goes home.
Germany are there to win the thing and they will want to ensure the best possible route to the final.
A draw is enough for either Germany or the US, Loew and Klinsmann worked together as a team 2006, both need to keep health and power. In addition, it doesn´t really matter if you´re first or second in the group because in the next round they´ll have Belgium or Russia which both were not convincing…
Germany’s route is the same win or draw, as they will win the group. Thanks to their pounding of Portugal, they likely advance even with a loss, but why take that risk?

I was thinking about it the other day. 7 pts guarantees a team to make it in the elimination round. Anything less than that and your spot isn’t guaranteed. Mathematically, you can have 3 teams with 2-1 records in the same group.
