Now that you have written the CFA Level III exam and are awaiting your exam result in August, it’s a great time to complete your application for membership with CFA Institute and a local member society. Regular membership is required for award of the CFA charter.
Man, CFAI, please don’t imply anything. It makes my fading hope burning again. Damn it.
Why the heck should I apply for membership before the final result comes out?
Guys, I just noted that I did not get something like that last year and I failed last year… I got it this year so does it imply something positive. What about you all
I’m sitting L3 for the first time, so I don’t know… but before anyone else suggests that this is an “early reveal” - I’m pretty certain it’s not. They just want our monehs.
More monehs = more resources = greater ability to send tortuous, ambiguously worded mass emails in the future = happy CFAI.
guys… this yr CFA has been more “social” to all the candidates… i am sure you notice with their frequent emails about this and that… we didn’t get much of those before…
I wouldn’t take it serious… i don’t tihnk they considered people’s reaction when they send an email like that…
This same thread happened last year - it all means NOTHING!
They’re just suggesting you get a start on it - the benefit is that it’s all filled out and approved before results come out and 95% of the L3 passers flood CFAI with their applications. You can apply without paying anything and wait until you get a pass e-mail (whether it’s this year or in 2018) to pay membership dues for the privilige of using the designation. I applied a few weeks ago and got approved - paid nothing - will wait until I pass L3 to pay. Once you’re approved for membership, the approval lasts as long as your “Passed L2” status lasts.
Get started and approved now = don’t wait weeks/months after August 12.
Can you get your work experience approved without requesting references yet?
I wanted to get a head start without getting ahead of myself (i.e. submit my work experience for validation, but hold off on bugging my coworkers for references). However my info has been in “saved” status for several business days now, and there is no “submit” button for that part alone.
I would feel too cocky requesting references at this stage given how uncertain I feel about my results, so I’ll probably hold off if there is no way to do a partial submission.
I’m a retaker and certainly didn’t get this mail last year. Would be more beneficial if this process is tied to the L3 exam registration, “CFA Program Next Steps” is definitely a leading statement…how do we “move in together” when we have yet to consummate the r-ship…and we all know dat date is 12 August 2014…# drifts into a deeper state of flux#
I asked a direct supervisor, my firm’s principal, and a coworker as none had the CFA designation.
CFAI and your local society will only consider your application when it’s complete. It’s incomplete until your references have filled out their forms. I’m not terribly confident I’ll get the result I want on August 12, but I have a wild next two months with the GMAT and wedding around the corner so I wanted this headache out of the way.
Apparently they only send that email to people who failed in order to get you to sign up before you actually find out your results … that way they get the extra fees even though you cannot use the designation.
^^ If you check the 10 weeks schedule, you would notice that they did not even finish correcting the exams unless you believe in the whole conspiracy theory lol …
