Your opinion on CSC?

If I want to get into equity/investments/capital markets/research, is the CSC worth it?

As in: will it help me in getting my next job? will it make me look more attractive to employers? is it unneccesary for my path?

CSC is a joke.

+1

In all my honesty, what’s CSC? Customer Service Certificate? Civil Service Certificate? Correctional Services Certicate? That’s what I found from my google search.

yea what’s a CSC?

Cute Society of Cats?

I’d rather have a cute cat than have the CSC.

Canadian Securities Course.

Joke indeed.

It will not be of much use for equity/investments/capital markets/research jobs.

I only tell people do write it under two circumstances: 1) if you’re in undergrad and you want to stand out to employers 2) if it is a regulatory requirement for a job

That said, it’s very easy and the only thing you have to lose is the $1000 fee for writing it. It’s hard to predict where you will be in the future so writing it can sometimes be beneficial.

If you’re not sponsored, you lose it though. You will have to write it again.

I believe it stays valid for three years

$1000 bucks to write it?! Damn. More than the CFA

Yup it aint cheap. But that includes any “registration fee” that they charge as well as the “sitting fee” for both exams.

I have the CSC and I didn’t feel that it was a leverage for me. However, I mostly applied to corporate finance jobs. I’ve been told that it can help when applying to jobs in banks.

And yes $1,000 is a lot of money. The only reason I took it was that my employer (insurance company lol) paid for it.

If you’re an undergrand in business / finance, you will not learn anything and maybe put a week-end or two worth of studying.

Honestly the only time I have seen employers talk about this is for retail financial advisors. I work in the institutional world and trust me these guys could give 2 shits about a csc. CFA runs institutional investments even the CFP is no where on the playing field.

Great, thanks guys. You saved me $1000. It’s outrageous how much it costs, and I looked at sample material from it, it looked like dumbed down CFA material. Needless, to say, it’s for retail banking jobs and for MF salespeople so I didn’t end up taking it.
