50+ dead, 400+ injured in Vegas mass shooting

ditto

^hear hear.

lock him up

whats the most ironic about this is you could do the same thing with some right wing gun nut saying that outlawing guns will not stop gun crime, but we should ban abortions to save fetuses. people are stupid - however you can have a discussion about the frequency & seriousness about mass shootings that could be changed via changing policies around bump stocks, assault weapons, background checks etc.

Nobody really cares about bump stocks that’s into guns. They’re horribly inaccurate and by that I mean good luck hitting anything, while they may have fed into whatever stylistic thing that shooter was going for, body count would have invariably been higher without one. What I’m saying is most of your NRA / gun types really wouldn’t oppose a ban because its viewed as tangential. No serious shooter owns one for anything other than a novelty item. However, just be aware that banning them will have zero to no impact on severity or frequency of mass shootings.

Assault weapons are where you’ll run into a ton of debate but that’s been covered here ad nauseum. Main point being VT shooting left 32 dead and used only pistols.

I think polls have shown a 90% support of better background checks among voters and even 75% among Republicans so its honestly weird we don’t have those.

them bump stocks are really fun bc it’s so ridiculous. it really transforms your gun into full automatic…but fully automatic is not used accurate whether you use bump stock or not. I’ve tried it myself on mp5 a few years ago with one of my older brothers…We had a semi auto mp5 and his friend from the army knew a guy with fully auto mp5…btw you can buy these fully autos for obscene amount of money…think $8k back in 2010ish. we fired side by side for fun…speed wise they are identical…accuracy they are identical…but i can see how these things can be mighty deadly in packed places.

I question the accuracy claim, its contrary to everything I’ve heard because to control the FA you’d keep it planted hard on the shoulder. That said I just haven’t seen much push back against banning the bump stocks.

When you’re going full rambo mode on mp5 or say 5.56 well unless you are the rambo or someone who eats recoil for breakfast, you ain’t gonna hit anything…That is why per my older brother, in the military they teach you tap tap and move tap tap…in the movies you see one shot move one shot move OR full on auto mode…in real life adrenaline kicks in and one shot to the chest won’t do hence two quick bursts.

Now on to the noobies like me and 99% of others. Yes, I can shoot just as well as my brother in a sit down position in a peaceful gun range in CA, NV or even PA…no pressure…but when the pressure is on and your nerves kick in, well even the things you do every day without a second thought becomes tough…I’m sure some of the collegiate athletes will agree with me on this…SO, when a nutbag comes into a crowded place the nutbag will just shoot from the hips going wild…When going wild bumpstock works just as well as a 10k fully auto rifle…spray and pray it hits something in front of you…

But then again i ain’t saying ban bumpstock this or that just saying that maybe maybe we ought to do something…But you know what man? Yall probably already sensed that i’m a progressive but come from military family and grew up with guns in CA…I think the best way to protect our children at school is to hire armed guards or police officers at all times the school is operating AND have bolted steel doors…

the more and more videos i see produced by the NRA the more they look like a cult like scientology…

i realize that only a small minority of firearms owners are this insane but wow its scary. are there any other major second amendment organizations that havent been co-opt by the nut jobs i can point my gun loving buddies to?

oh yeah they are a cult…If we use the American Standard dictionary for the word cult, yes, they are a cult.

So my former boss who is smart - I don’t use the word smart lightly - plowed through our Constitution…It is long, dense and dry…We had a debate about it for a few days a few years back…Basically…NRA rewrote the 2nd Amendment and put words into our Founding Fathers for their benefit and own riches.

Second Amendment: A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Yes, at the time, lack of military, police, FBI…you had to bear arms and protect yourself from others…and there were plenty of others with savagery and animalistic intent…SO, people formed their own “militia” where they trained together and upheld the law in their town/village…Now fast forward 2018, we no longer have militia key word “well-regulated militia” because we have well regulated and trained police force, homeland security, SWAT, FBI, and host of others that focus on domestic law and order. These groups are “militia”

Liberals rerwote the entire dictionary and rules of logic…so they could rule forever, and take all the riches.

You’re thinking of your president, Xi aka Big Brother of China

if you were a toy with a pull string you would be about the most boring thing to play with - you have like 3 prefabricated sentences you throw out. you would not fly off the shelves, you are certainly not turbo man, more like booster

And then time moves forward, and all that repetitive “boring” stuff ends up being right.

As analysts, being right makes money. :bulb: :slightly_smiling_face: :bulb:

See my prior posts on Federalist #46 and public letters from proponents of the bill of rights at that time. They were unambiguously clear that they meant the 2nd amendment the way the NRA interprets it.

This is directly from Madison’s Federalist 46 which was a public letter written to convince the states to adopt a centralized Constitution and Bill of Rights.

“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

Eerily similar to the debates we have today.

What’s so interesting about Federalist 46 is that in the sections I bolded (first link) Madison argues control of a Tyrant would require in order 1) the population to sit idly by while their Federal government builds a massive army, 2) commit resources to funding that massive army, 3) de-emphasize state governance and 4) ultimately surrender their own weapons. A situation that he regards as completely implausible…

In the second link, Noah Webster (yes that Webster), George Mason and Tench Coxe all make similar arguments including this quote by Webster in a pamphlet urging ratification of the Constitution, “Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe."

As one scholar wrote, “It would be incongruous to suppose or suggest the Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment, which were proscriptions on the powers of the national government, simultaneously acted as a grant of power to the national government. Similarly, as to the term “well regulated,” it would make no sense to suggest this referred to a grant of “regulation” power to the government (national or state), when the entire purpose of the Bill of Rights was to both declare individual rights and tell the national government where the scope of its enumerated powers ended.”

Teacher accidentally fires gun in class, students injured

SEASIDE, Calif. (AP) — Police say a teacher in California accidentally fired his gun in a classroom, injuring three students.

It happened Tuesday at Seaside High School as Dennis Alexander was teaching a gun safety lesson for his administration of justice class.

Police say Alexander, who also serves as a reserve police officer, was pointing the gun at the ceiling to make sure it was not loaded when the weapon discharged.

Three students were injured by debris, including a 17-year-old whose father told KSBW-TV his son sustained moderate injuries when bullet fragments lodged in his neck.

Alexander was placed on administrative leave from his teaching job and he was also placed on administrative leave at the Sand City Police Department.
