Did those of you who sat level 2 read all the articles subscribed or are these covered in Schweser/Uppermark?
i never ordered them and i think i did fine after using only Schweser
sublimity how was level 2 as compare to L1. I passed l1 last september and may take l2 this september. Was Schweser enough in everything? I used Schweser for L1 but also used uppermark for Q-bank?
L2 was tougher than L1 for sure, so definitely give yourself more time to study. Schweser did a great job, IMO, both in notes and QBank. I didn’t look at any of the original material. I give it a 99% that I passed.
Glad you are so confident! Any tips?
I think I would order them anyways, just for the academic value.

How many hours did you put for L2?
well… good for you Sublimity ! I have a different feedback to give though. Schweser was great for L I, I aced it. I thought I would do the same with L II. Knew (and understood) all the study notes perfectly, had enough time to do the qbank twice (scoring above 95% overall)… and still on the d-day I didn’t like it ! Essay part was ok I believe, but multiple choice was crap. Not that I blame Schweser for that but the way the questions were written for the exam made it harder than the qbank. How many “which one is true/false” were there where 2 answers were possible ? And I am no talking about choosing the “best” answer -these are different type of questions asking specifically for the best-. Sucks. Plus the convarb questions were based on a damn tree with irrelevant values. It casts a doubt on your calculation when clearly it doesn’t make sense. Overall, Schweser is good, CAIA is interesting stuff (I bought the articles too and it’s not worth it, stick to notes be it Schweser or UpperMark), Level I is way too easy, Level II wasn’t as nice. Instead of acing it, I just hope I passed !
great advice, I appreciate the honesty.

Was the difficulty of L2 content only, or did the format have anything to do with it?
I tend to think it was the format more than anything. Like I said, QBase Schweser was quite easy -I felt it was easier than for L I paradoxically- and the curriculum as a whole is more focused on broad concepts (no more distribution features to be memorized for instance). Eg. if you compare Commodities and PE between L I and L II, LII doesn’t require as much memorizing efforts. I think LI and LII fit well together and it’s a nice curriculum to go through. Because the multiple choice part is randomly drawn, it is possible that some sessions of the exam are harder than others. So possibly, LII could be as easy as LI if you’re lucky, who knows ! Now truth be told, it wasn’t a bad thing that LII was harder the D-day. Indeed, should I have aced it as I did LI I would not have any particular respect for the credential. Cause yes it was interesting but no it wasn’t hard to pass. Now that I experienced more difficulty passing LII (which I still hope I passed), I feel the whole designation is a bit more serious than many thought. Bottomline, I hope I passed this thing… and I hope they keep on making the exams harder, so good luck;)
Bottomline, I hope I passed this thing… and I hope they keep on making the exams harder, so good luck;) HAHAHAHA So the major difference between L2 and L1 is there is less rote learning and more understanding?
That’s what I’d say yes. Again, it all depends on your own combo academics/job of course. Good luck.
bouh, How many hours did you put in? I aced L1 (everything above 70) last September and planning to take L2 this year but won’t be able to study until last week of July because of previous personal commitments. If I put serious 6-7 weeks, do you think it is doable?
According to me, yes it’s doable. Time needed will vary depending on your own specifics but I believe 6 weeks is actually ideal cause should you peak, you will indeed peak at the right time. I ended up with too much time on my hands and I had to retake the whole qbase and read again just to make sure I didn’t forget any details before the d-day. You won’t be surprised to see that there are meaningless details one needs to memorize just to be sure he/she can ace it should this kind of stupid questions be asked.
I know that they go very deep in asking those questions. I started studying for CAIA Level I somewhere in July and studied around 2 months. Lets see. I still have time to think about as early registration is not closing until mid May. Thanks for your response.
Results are out for L II ! I am done with CAIA as far as exams are concerned… now I just need to shell 250 dollars and find two reference letters to join the CAIA Brotherhood. Good luck to the others, and enjoy the (short) ride in these difficult times.
congrats!!!
