Best Road Trip Music

Planning a road trip later this month, I’ll be on the road for a few weeks and probably put a few thousand miles on the car. My current playlists are all tired and I’m looking for music I wouldn’t normally listen to. Wide open here, only limitations are no country, no religious music, no whiney chick music.

Dude. I don’t listen to country for a living, but it can be fun on road trips.

My idea of country is Faith Hill. On mute.

I find that good old classic rock works well for road trips. And motown. Here are a few ideas from my last trip up north:

Eagles - Greatest Hits

James Taylor -Greatest Hits

Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It

Leagues

MGMT

Amos Lee - Mission Bell, Last Days at the Lodge, As the Crow Flies

Mat Kearney - Young Love

All The Bright Lights

I also listened to a lot of stand-up comedy on Pandora. Paul F. Tompkins, Jim Gaffigan, etc. And The Dave Ramsey channel on iHeart Radio’s app is a good way to pass the time.

Led Zeppelin bro

last days of may - blue oyster cult

Try this song. The Chicken Fried.

Always a staple

I don’t know most of the artists (which is good), thanks for rec. Eagles are solid, that’s definitely on the list.

great band

Honestly just put a Pandora genre on and let the tunes fly. I don’t download music anymore so I can’t tell you a good album to get for your trip.

Get a book on tape.

Zeppelin was a good call, maybe some Creedence Clearwater Revival as well.

Classic

How could I forget The Last Waltz - The Band (Helpless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYWrlfC6TRM) (Acadian Driftwood, brilliant for a road trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ykBbB4D_-I)

Raw Power - Iggy and the Stooges

Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones

Rap/Beats

Straight Outta Compton - NWA

Enter the Wu - Wu-Tang Clan

Entroducing - DJ Shadow

Country

Johnny Cash

Hank Williams

Hank Williams III for his punk take on classic country

New Rock

The Monitor - Titus Andronicus (punk rock, but more filled out sound) (Theme Song from ‘Cheers’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkZq6UFSmtg)

(A More Perfect Union: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08fqHr_KGPY)

Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem (kind of beats too) (All my Friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjT7a23A9CQ)

If you like electronica, Sasha & Digweed – Northern Exposure series. Classic progressive house from the mid 90s.

Of Montreal

I like brain_wash’s recommendations and krnyc2008.

Other suggestions (of relatively recent new music that most people haven’t heard): Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Phosphorescent, Cut Copy, Gary Clark Jr., Wild Nothing, Foxygen, The Walkmen, The Mountain Goats, Jens Lekman, First Aid Kit, Dr. Dog, Twin Shadow, Atlas Sound, and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti.

Thanks all.

Besides what has already been mentioned, any good techno recommendations?

Great Mountain Goats song, just brutal: No Children: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRP6egIEABk.

I posted this on my facebook last Valentines Day. Yes, it is a slow day for me today.
