Checking for Charterholders

I’m interviewing a candidate for ER position which alledges he’s a CFA charterholder. However, when I asked him some questions on what was the test like, he got somewhat confused and gave me strange answers. Is there anywhere I can check this apart from local CFA society?

If you google his name, you can often find his name in that FT / WSJ article they post every year.

I think that this is indeed proof that he is a Charterholder.

call cfai

.

If you or a colleague are a CFAI member (just need to be a member, although all charterholders must be members to use the CFA designation), you can go to the member database on CFAI’s website and look up the guy’s name and see if it comes up. It will tell you if they have the charter or if they are just a member without a charter (or not appear at all if they’re neither). If you don’t have that info, you can call up the CFAI institute and request confirmation of the charter (in fact, you’re supposed to confirm it, so they won’t mind). You may be able to do this by email too, but phone is probably faster.

do a name search in CFAI’s member directory.

Keep us posted as to what happens…I’m curious.

Are you nervous b/c you do not have the right to use the CFA designation? You seem threatened/not trusting?

Thanks for the tips. I’m searching the CFAI site for a member list but did not find it. I didn´t ask about the questions on the test, just how format has changed from when I took it and he seemed a bit confused. Maybe he was just nervous about the interview and all. mpnoonan=> you got me!

I just ask people oh yeah what’s your charter number I’m just gonna run some routine due diligence. Willy

I can’t wait to tell my future employers I’m a CFA

I’ve run a few background checks on charterholders in the past and all you have to do is call CFAI and they’ll tell you. I can’t remember if they require a SSN or not but if you’re going to hire the guy I assume you would have that info anyways.

Let me rephrase that, I have an interview next week and I can’t wait to tell my potential boss that I’m a CFA level II, he’ll be pumped.

Are you currently a candidate for Level II or Levell III because I do not believe a CFA level II exists.

Oh yeah it does, it’s as real as the air we breath. I’m a candidate in the CFA and will be taking level II at an undisclosed time in the future. Therefore ‘CFA Level II’ is going in bold and underlined on my resume. Look out world here I come…

CFARio, send me an email with his name, I will check in the members’ directory  or ask any other charterholder to do the same
