Daytrip to Philly--any suggestions for sights and food?

I’m taking a day trip to Philly in a couple weeks with the gf, haven’t been there since I was a kid so effectively don’t know anything about the city. Looking for suggestions on places to see and restaurants to try for both lunch and dinner. On the restaurants I’m open to any suggestions, from good places to get a cheesesteak to 5-star cuisines to indulge in.

alma de cuba for mojitos…16th and Walnut

dmitris!

Monks cafe is great for beers and food, i think it’s on 13th?

Tequila’s at 16th and Locust for Mexican (fairly priced) and Barclay Prime at Rittenhouse Square if you are looking to break the bank. The Good Dog on 15th Street in Center City has solid pub fod.

Bleu Martini in olde city

The philly BYOs are the best for dates - even though places like monks, or alma are excellent food the atmosphere of the little byos are much nicer for dates. What type of food are you looking for?

Cool. Looking for anything interesting and good to try, no specific cuisine in mind.

Anyone got cheesesteak suggestions?

Pat’s King of Steaks, across from Geno’s, close to downtown - i like them better than Geno’s. Everyone will have their own choice. The Continental - martini lounge on market street.

PAT’s for sure. Get “extra whiz with”. Trust me. Do NOT ask for provolone or american cheese. It’s a crime in Philly. Oh yeah, can you airmail me one when you’re there? Actually, make it two.

Independence Hall is pretty neat. If you have time, go see it.

there is a new restaurant named parc thats good for a drink. its near barclay prime. i would hit them both up. i think barclay has a $100 cheesesteak on their menu.

Pats, Wiz Wit. MMMmmmmm mouth watering right now. F Geno’s and their over the top neons and cleanliness, they try to lure people over by deception… pats on 9th, Wharton, and Passyunk ave… Real easy to get to. Go south on Broad St, make left onto Wharton and you’ll run into it. If you hit 95, you went too far.

Considering that the orignal post was on May 3rd, its safe to assume JTLD had already traveled to Philly.

Old City-Brazils on chestnut is fun, lot of energy there.

does taking a day trip to Philly in a couple of weeks qualify as “safe to assume”

Just got back from Philly. Freezing today but lot of fun. Visited UPenn, then walked all the way to Pat’s Steaks in South Philly on the advice of several members in this thread. Didn’t realize it was a good 1.5 hour walk, and got caught in the 9th Street Italian Market street fair to boot, but it was pretty cool. Took down 3 cheesesteaks (whiz and onions), a thing of fries, and 2 cokes between me and the gf. Good sh!t. Walked around and checked out all the sights and sounds around Independence Hall. Had dinner at Continental, which now that I look back on this thread niraj_a had recommended – good call. Fun spot, decent food, nice atmosphere.

walked from penn to pats?! hope you didn’t think Pats Wharton st address had anything to do with the univ… that is a hike! and a pretty dangerous one at that depending on the route. Did you get to catch any of john legends speech at commencement? also I stand by my word that you should have gone to one of the byos for dinner… continental is a decent brunch spot but none of the Steven starr restaurants have any real charm.
