Yes. This was easily one of the most insanely busy years I’ve ever logged, worked past four am on an assortment of pursuits about fifty to sixty days this year. Probably a similarly crazy 2020 ahead before things taper, but I’m riding on cloud nine watching everything come together.
I basically had no goals. I can’t really think of anything I want that is worth making much effort for. However, personal net worth went up about 50%. So I guess that was good.
my net worth increased by 100k, about 33% increase.
Got engaged and I havent cheated on her as well. closing in on 2 years my boys!
I’ve learned to get used to not going out. I literally ended my favorite hobby.
it’s tough to change habits, but it can be done!
“ Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.” — Warren Buffett.
this is not so much what my goals are. just my achievements. also improtant to note. my only goal is to increase my net worth and get richer so that i can retire sooner.
I don’t really have personal annual goals like a business, just get up every day and work. That said, here are some good things that happened and some disappointments:
Built new team into a cohesive unit and brought analysts up to a high standard of work.
Kids are developing perfectly and are very fun. Was able to go on some fun family vacations.
Dad is semi-retiring (finally). He loves to work, but I think it is healthy to move on to other interests. Also, mom is retired and it’s good for her.
Wife’s business is doing well and we’ve found a nice balance. Her business is looking like it will hit its goals for year 2 of operations. Also, wife is hot.
Got my brother to get in reasonable shape and run a half marathon with me.
Lost 10 pounds without much loss in strength. Feeling pretty good and healthy, for which I am thankful.
^it’s a company sponsored trip for sales reps/managers if you exceed your quota (usually >140%). It’s not as prestigious as it sounds.
And good question, i just say CS but it’s actually a masters in analytics. Last semester was intro courses but it consisted of python, r, regex, sql, and went into the modeling behind different classifications, clustering, optimizations, etc.
Nice! I finished first semester of the program I’m in and was given the option to roll it into the PhD track. Still waiting on two applications I put in for HVD/MIT MS in DS, but at this stage, I just accepted an offer to take me back down to Steelers country so it looks like we’re likely headed that way. My wife / family / me are pretty torn up about leaving the area, but such is life.
Put away 50-60% of your pay (or whatever amount is doable) the day you receive it and adjust your expenses so that you make it to the end of the month. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Well congrats man! When do you leave? Let’s try and catch up the first week of Jan if you can. CMU was on the short list of schools i was considering and has arguably one of the best programs.
