Ferguson, MO

There’s nothing worse than an ideological libertarian (I contrast that will a pragmatic libertarian like Milton Friedman). They’re all so preachy and annoying and smug.

“I care about personal liberties just a little bit more than most people.”

STFU.

It’s a serious dilemma in today’s two party system. I do generally vote republican (at least in national elections) because I care more about the fiscal aspects of libertarianism than the social ones…but that gap is quickly narrowing as the right has repeatedly shown it’s not so great at reigning in spending while at the same time taking away more and more civil liberties.

It does sound like you’re talking about the Tea Party though and not traditional libertarianism. For libertarians that know the difference, we hate the Tea Party (and Fox News for that matter).

The contention is that, after stealing the cigars and assaulting the store owner (the police report and stills are up on the Smoking Gun), the cop spotted the guy and moved in for an arrest. The guy resisted with dire consequences for him.

I am in the same situation. I dont like the two party system at all. I had a class in law&economics which taught analysis of law from an economic perspective. Very informative and at the same time very scary. You start to realize how politician move to the extremes in primaries and back to the middle in general. But if a certain topic is held by a minority of either or both sides, it is simply ignored. Ex the Dems were running from gay rights ten years ago and now they cant cozy up to the lgbt community fast enough. And I think smart republicans are in a difficult situation. Nominating Palin seriously put the nation in danger although that situation didnt ultimately materialize. It was irresponsible in the pursuit of a win and not national interest. The Dems have their issues for sure, I am not fond of the limited cjoices we have in 2016.

Just stop.

Same with Clinton and Obama, 'cept it DID materialize.

Who are you? What makes you think anyone gives a sh!t what you think? When swpthlg stops responding to my comments I will stop responding to his. Seriously get out of your moms basement and get a life. Dont you have some studying to do?

this is literally all i could think of when i was reading this…

I think you’re talking to the wrong guy.

I dont think you can compare BO and Palin in a legitimate way. You may not like his policies but at least he is competent unless you discount the education system entirely. Palin almost had a nervous breakdown on the campaign trail including not knowing the background of the ny attacks or the fed. There are just too many incidents of stupidity to count with here. I wouldnt even compare that with RR in 2012 not even in the same league. I dont worry about them.

Oooooohhhhhh… Burrrrrnnnnn…

I’m so sorry. We all really give a shit what you think. Tell us more how the system is so broken and that your theoretical anarcho-capitalism will save us all. Because that preachy garbage isn’t already all over the Internet.

Moooooom! Can I have some juice?

LOL!

Oh wait…You’re being serious.

Rand Paul has his faults (crazy pro-lifer, anti-gun control zealot, whacky immigration reform ideas {especially for a libertarian}) but he’s pretty damn close to as good as it gets in terms of a Presidential candidate that will stand up for personal liberty.

I strongly encourage everyone to check out what he wrote on what’s happening in Ferguson (see how nicely I went back on-topic?). He even has most hardline Dems saying he’s right on. Seriously, read it. It’s a great Op Ed.

Grmn dont you have some serious weight to lose?

^ Competent as long as there’s a teleprompter to tell him what to say. lolz

The funny thing is that pragmatic libertarianism has been pretty mainstream among economists for about 40-50 years. Political libertarianism is an offshoot of a bunch of potheads in the 80’s who wanted personal freedoms for one reason: legal pot. That’s the history of all this high-minded libertarian smugness.

Thanks for the link STL. Well written.

I think he is in a pickle with getting the nomination because he will have to tow the party line. One thing that seriously concerned me about him early on was in 2010 there was a woman protesting at one of his campaign stops nonviolently and one of his staff members knocked her to the ground and literally stepped on her head and held his foot there. I dont think he even got in trouble I could be wrong. But surrounding yourself with this type of person who resorts to violence so quickly in an act of aggression makes me question his judgment in character. I could be wrong but his sticks in my head at its ruthlessness. I would be interested to see him on a third party ticket so he could be straightforward with his beliefs.

To be fair, we are winning that one.

@Randy - I had to bring this page up on my phone so I could see what clip you posted. Excellent work.

This is the best you can come up with? Seriously?

You might as well just concede the argument if you’re going to resort to name-calling.
