You’re just talking about the TV show version. By the end of the last book ( SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY ) Dany can control Drogon, likely just got herself the biggest Khalasar on the planet, and the Unsullied remain utterly faithful to her. Meanwhile, Victorian Greyjoy is about to enter the war on her side as well, and all her enemies are dying of the bloody flux. The War for Mereen is supposedly happening at the very start of the next book. Dany should make short work of her enemies. What she does when she meets Tyrion should be interesting…
Knowing that her nephew (who if he is who he says he is has a better claim to the throne than she does) is already landed on Westeros with the Golden Company, she’ll high-tail it over there on Greyjoy ships.
The main question about the dragons is who will ride the other two?
I don’t know what book you read, but in the one I read at the end Dany (albeit after having ridden off on Drogon) is half-stared and naked forced to literally walk back to the city because she can’t get Drogon to do anything she wants.
Reread the last pages of her last chapter. She stumbles upon Khal Jhaqo’s Khalasar. This is a pretty interesting dynamic considering Jhaqo and Dany hate each other (they both vowed to kill each other if they ever crossed paths again). But, now that Drogon is huge and terrifying, and Dothraki follow the strongest warrior (or chick with a dragon in this case) it’s implied she just gained 20,000 Dothraki screamers. Or, Jhaqo will try to kill her and Drogon will eat him then Dany will take charge of the Khalasar.
However it works out, her current situation is her and Drogon facing off against a huge Khalasar.
Edit: And as far as Drogon goes, after Dany tries to walk away but is too weak to go far, Drogon saves her and she’s able to ride him and direct him with little effort. By the end of the book, Dany is a straigh-up dragon rider. Definitely go back and read her chapter again. You’re missing out on some great stuff.
I already started to forget everything… damn will be such a bummer when book 6 will be released… but one thing i remember clearly - Bran becoming a badass, and Snow being stabbed.
Also, not sure whats up with Aria training?
Completely don’t remmeber Daenerys storyline, probably because it was suport boring for most of book 5
While true, I suspect the overall endgame should be similar…although you could be right as Sansa seems more important than in the original script.
Spoilers
That, and I’m not sure there’s going to be a lot of deaths, apart from the RW and NS, there’s some annoying fake deaths. I figured the story moved on from Cat, but now we have LS, we thought Brienne was hung, but apparently not now. I mean does anyone really think Jon is actually dead?
So who are the three dragon heads? I can’t buy that Tyrion is a Targ because so much of his story is about the relationship between him and Tywin, and this kind of messes up the dynamic IMO. Plus if Aerys bedded Joanna on her wedding night then I think that would make Jamie and Cersei more likely Targs?
How do book readers feel about the fact that it seems quite plausible that the T.V show might end before he finishes the books?
The only gripe I have about the show is the casting of Mance Rayder. The guys is supposed to be extremely charismatic ( you would have to be to unite a hundred different warring clans) yet Ciaran Hinds seem to have the personality of sandpaper. Anyway, hopefully going forward this character comes more to the fore.
I can’t say I like this trend of everyone being revealed as a secret Targaeryan. It’s like in Heroes, when everyone started getting superpowers. When Mohinder turned into Spiderman, I was like yeah, I’m watching something else.
Agree, I think Charles Dance, while doing a good job as Tywin, seems more like a British school principal rather than the brutal lord he is in the books. This guy is basically Vladimir Putin.
The TV series could have unfolded a bit slower. For people that haven’t read the books, I constantly hear how it’s too confusing and there’s too much going on. The show runners could have easily made each book two seasons (like they did with the third book).
Instead, Bran on TV is basically already caught up to Bran by the end of the last book. Dany and Sansa aren’t too far away either. Then again, there are major characters that haven’t even been introduced or are being skipped over entirely.
In the end, the show is probably just too expensive to draw it out. I know GRRM has given the writers a basic outline of how he sees it all unfolding, but Martin admitted he doesn’t even know how the characters will get there. Nor does the show have to follow Martin’s vision.
And, at the moment, GRRM said there will be two more books. The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. But, he originally intended this to be a trilogy so he’s always saying more books are possible.
The problem with GoT is mainly the result of not knowing who all the characters are. It’s kind of easier in the books because you’re constantly seeing people’s names over and over again. At least it’s not Ulysses.
The two seasons per book is not a bad idea. However, the first book is a bit shorter than the others, so perhaps they could have just made that season longer by a few more episodes.
