Islamic State's Finances Cut by 30% From Last Year

ISIS revenues are down 30% due to airstrikes and lost territory. Even Top 2 terror organizations are not immune from economic misfortune.

Who does report that? Do they have accountants?

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Such a big organization must have accountants, some sort of CFO, and maybe even other departments like HR. I have no idea how they report this, do they use GAAP vs IFRS, or other details.

I would imagine that the 75% decline in oil prices has hurt ISIS far worse than US airstrikes have.

^if they do have then how do they hire them? Word of mouth? I believe this would be most dangerous finance job you can ever do. One mistake and you die. You take expensive debt you die. You make wrong entry you die. Maybe these people are the once who aren’t interested in war and moved to finance/accounting department of ISIS. How do they even motivate themselves?

i think you’re overestimating the risk of death. it is unlikely that even ISIS would so rashly kill the few people who are experts in this area. i would think that the odds of being killed by an airstrike while doing ISIS’s taxes is a much greater risk.

It’s based on intelligence estimates primarily tied claims that territory and population under their rule have shrunk by 30% in the past year under the multi-front push. So that has shrunk their production as well.

They say the actual damage to their oil infrastructure from airstrikes within their territory has been quickly repaired which I find suprising.

the real question is, how many ISIS accountants and IT people are trying to make the switch to the buyside?

And it also counts towards a candidate’s CFA work experience.

And at least it’s another option for the unemployed CFA charterholders in Vancouver.

because they are burned out or their motivation is shot up?

Contrary to what people think here most of their revenue is from taxation and extortion.

Wow, that must be some Beta on ISIS.

If ISIS goes down, where will the most elite jihadis from the Top 3 madrassas end up?

Flight school.

they’ll be stuck teaching jihad in some podunk madrassa. or goldman.

They will drop out of the work force temporarily to focus on passing some exams, when instead, they should be aggressively networking.

short isil long …?

^ America

It seems that middle eastern stability would be better for Europe than for the US. Europe is more exposed to refugees, (probably) trade, and actual incidence of terrorism.
