To digress from rap.Let’s see how diverse musical tastes are. I think I have a pretty diverse(or sporadic) taste in music. Using the random feature on your ipod, itunes or music players, what are the songs that come up: 1. Imma Be - Black Eyed Peas 2. Almshouse Riddim Instrumental 3. Outta Control - 50 Cent 4. Sideways - Citizen Cope 5. I want you - Paris Avenue 6. Spit Your Game - Notorious B.I.G 7. Click mi Finger - Erupt 8. Bulletproof Soul - Sade 9. Can’t Take Wi Life - Di Genius & Movado 10. Take My Money - Gyptian A bit of a dancehall bias but either way. How about you guys?
five greatest mcs of all time, not in order. 1) Guru from Gangstarr 2) Nas 3) EM (I dont even like him but I got to give credit where its due) 4) Raekwon 5) Ghostface
This list is not by any means based off record sales/pre-teen fan count. Pusha T is up in top 10 because of his work when he was under the Clipse. Who is probably the most underrated rap group of all time. If you disagree listen to the album “Hell Hath No Fury” all the way through. You’ll be like damn why was this never on the radio, that lxwarr30 is a bright guy. I wouldn’t say he is #5, this is in no order, but in my mind his imagery and intellect make him top 10. I’ve never seen someone make selling drugs sound so intelligent. Haha Drake. ROFL. Because my friend is always telling me he sucks too. I was listening to this guy on “Comeback Season” and he is one of the most creative rappers. You can’t knock the singing, which most other rappers do as well (50 cents/eminems/lil wayne), just because he does it better than them and gets recognition for it. He doesn’t go into ‘sing mode’ and stay in it. I like how he will be singing then just jump into some lines - it’s melodic. Anyway, I suggest you listen to “So Far Gone” which is what really sold me on Drake. I could do without some of the new stuff he is putting out. Selected drake bars: “Cash only transactions, homie, And please no receipts the feds like to explore those They can’t audit if they don’t know I bought it I been doin’it for years homie, thoroughly I’ve thought it Through, what it do, I am currently recorded on a track admitting most of my currency’s imported But too late now, too legitimate to hit 'em with Lawsuits even if they’re crimes that I did commit” I feel like I do not give enough credit to the Wu, but I haven’t listened to all 100 of their albums so it’s difficult. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. AYODAYO I’ll have to do that when I get home this evening that sounds interesting. TUPAC-Hmmm. I’m just biased, he is good. RIP BIG
I got ya’ - no order - pusha t top 20 for sure (I shouted you out, or someone, when they recommended his mixtape). I’m with you on Drake - I think underrated because of his mass appeal and crooner status, as well as the fact he’s 50% jewish and 100% canadian. Him and 40’s vibe is just unreal. That dude is crazy witty, creative, and stylistic. Top 10 for sure in my book, unequivocally. Here’s my quick top 10, subject to revision - no order, and overall how much I liked them as a rapper (combination of style/flow/how many times I could repeat a track/album they put out, etc…): Pac Big Fifty Drake Em Wayne Curren$y (I don’t like some of the beat styles he’s partial too, but his flows are killer) Wiz Khalifa (pop now, and probably always has been tilted that way, but loved his mixtapes and how he runs his brand) Going group which is probably a violation for the last two: D-Block Wu (admittedly kind if rookish on the wu but respect how they lyrically assassinate most rap past and present)

Agree, soundtrack to 2006, wamp, wamp. However, IMO Drake doesn’t have the one killer album where every song stunts. You need that to be considered great. > I feel like I do not give enough credit to the Wu, > but I haven’t listened to all 100 of their albums > so it’s difficult. Rakim not being on any of these lists is straight blasphemy Microphone Fiend is the sickest 4 minutes of hip-hop there ever was/there ever will be.
Top of my head, top 8. This is strictly lyrical skills, not including production and sick beats and whatnot: Notorious 2Pac Jigga Nas Wu, if groups are allowed Wayne Rakim Pusha T If including musicality, I feel like The Roots need recognition somewhere. Obvously not pure rap, though.
Curren$y/Wiz “Audio Dope II” by Curren$y is one of my favorite songs. Wiz had his moments. Both have flow. I just can’t listen to either of them rant about how many damn Js they smoke. It’s getting to be too much. We get it. I just don’t see either of them having a long career in rap. Wiz had a lot of potential but threw it away for some quick bucks. Lost most of his original fan base and is voted as my “Most likely to be the next B.o.B.” from the class of 2011. Hopefully his label will let him really be himself on the next album, but if he continues on this path expect him to be on the next Katy Perry remix. Then decades later be branded as a 50 yr old stoner like Snoop Dogg (who’s also trash by the way). Yea, sense the hatred. I have a lot of respect for Curren$y. He stays true to his style but it’s not my cup of tea all the time. However, if this was highschool still I would probably be ranting about this guy. He is a character. Selected Curren$y Bars: “Came a long way But I don’t got time to be Sittin at the dock of the bay Wastin every second Money can be made out a rhyme I can do it on a dime Kick the shit out the beat until it die Call CSI”
The $y/wiz tape how fly is classic to me.

The songs they are famous for in the pop world mostly annoy me. (With the exception of grindin and Mr. Me Too) > > Drake. ROFL. Because my friend is always telling > me he sucks too. I was listening to this guy on > “Comeback Season” and he is one of the most > creative rappers. I agree with you on comeback season. That’s probably my favorite Drake album (which isn’t saying much) and Comeback season his best song off that IMO. I just get really irked when kids (< 22) or people in general are listening to a song like Fireworks and start saying sh** like “Listen to him preach”(True story) He’s not a major lyricist. Or maybe he is but he’s going after the money by putting out the tracks with mass appeal (which I can’t fault him for). Anyhow, i’m just salty the genre is in a down period. My top 10 in no particular order: BIG Pac Nas Hov Em (I guess) Wu-Tang(esp Ghostface, Raekwon and Method Man) Talib Kweli(Reflection Eternal) Wayne (Carter II. Don’t like his autotune movement) DMX (Not the greatest lyricist but the finished product was usually good) Busta Rhymes (Same as above) Honorable mention to my guy Joe Budden…lol. He was good on a lot of mixtapes. I think his triangle offense one was raw. Listen to the grindin freestyle with Paul Cain and Fabo. Also you have Pusha man, New Jerz sh**.
I never got to hear some teenageers rant about Drake, but I’d get a kick out of it. That is too funny “listen to him preach.” Oh yea without a doubt Drake is after the money. The song ‘successful’ is just one example. I’m not that hip where I can’t appreciate someone’s music just because they have mass appeal. However, most of the song that got him his notoriety I am not a fan of. As for being a great lyricist. In my opinion he is, because it’s difficult to tell a good story. Especially when you’re being contained to a catchy rhyme scheme (which he supposedly stole from Big Sean, but that guys a cornball, so who cares). Why do you guess at Em? This is your opinion. Carter II is best wayne album. +1. Busta was doing big things back in the day. He had some epic party songs I don’t see how Kanye isn’t on the list, but Talib/DMX are. But I’ll save my grrrs for another post. Kid Cudi - Beside being just one of the coolest people on earth. I think he’s really good. Not top 10, but he deserves a shoutout.
I only liked College dropout. Even the tracks that weren’t singles were hot. (Spaceship, breath in breathe out, Two words) He has some other one off songs I like on other albums. Flash Lights, Monster(Sounds great when you’re in the club…lol). All his other current hits are whack though. DMX was more of a style thing. For Kweli, I just like reflection eternal and his blackstar album with Mos. +1 on Kid Cudi.
First 10 Songs on iTunes Shuffle: London Theophilus - Oops Phill Collins - Can You Feel the Love Tonight Freelance Whales - The Great Estates Outkast - I’m Sorry Miss Jackson The Coasters - Down in Mexico Maino - Tiger Woods The Game - Put You on the Game Lil Wayne & Juelz - Birds Flyin High Count the Stars - Taking It All Back Talib Kweli - In the Mood
