Music I'm listening to.

Ramones? Pfft…this is punk

The Ramones themselves never claimed to be punkrockers wink

I also like other bands, like Blink182, the UK Subs, The Clash…

Yung Lean - Kyoto

slightly perplexed by the number of people into gangsta rap. and Creed? really?

Rap music is pretty much what the water closet is about. 1) Getting your money up. 2) Trying to get HCB 3) Demonstrating Alpha Male 4) Repeat Process

It’s about time this thread came back to life.

It should be bumped once a week.

Heard this one, first time in a long time, when I went home to visit my folks in H-TOWN, been playing this in the office:

Lil’ Keke - I’m a G

From above song:

“High school is over with I’m on a path To more hoes more dough and a new slab”

Nelly - Pimp Juice

Rap is the fking shittiest form of music ever

^Its the best motivational music ever. Always listen to Thug Motivation leading up to my exams, that’s that shit that gets you hype

You ain’t gonna listen to this and want to go back to an ordinary life

Yuck, threre is far better music that gets you pumped up out there. Some rap songs are decent but they are few and far between. Can’t stand the genre, and some of the variants of ‘EDM’ like techno.

Or this: Rick Ross (don’t like him but this song is an exception) - Everyday I’m hustlin’

^ got a soundcloud link for that?

People who stuff like this just don’t know anything about rap. I wouldn’t expect someone who lives with their momma to understand getting their swagger/hoes/money up :stuck_out_tongue:

YOU A GOT DAM PRETTY BOY

Ha ha, I Could explain but something tell me that someone who listens to a guy with ‘bling’ on his teeth who in turn ‘raps’ about bitches on his dick, cause he’s rich then all i can say you should figure out the difference between ‘swagger’ and ‘crass’. It’s quite a thick line btw.

If you’re trolling, well done.

One or 2 songs from Lil Wayne, A couple from Tupac, Eminem are ok. Most of it is still garbage.

I would like to know your opinion. I’d like to think that you can listen to something fictional and have just as much fun as something real. The expectation for any art is to walk away with a feeling, but it doesn’t guarentee you a specific one. When you hear something like Lil B say he’s a GOD DAMN PRETTY BOY you’re not suppose to believe it. It’s a song for anyone to vicariously bask in their own glory. Kanye once said “If you don’t like my music then you don’t like yourself.” I strongly believe a lot of people who don’t like rap fall into that category of not liking themself. There is so much rap that promotes a positive self image (even if it means degrading those around you) that if you can’t find anything redeeming about the genre there isn’t something wrong with it - there’s something wrong with you.

Hmm, It’s late but i got a couple of min. I’m not a music snob, in fact i don’t give a fk about the technicalities of music and genres i just like how it makes me feel. African country, Arab ‘rap’, German Industrial metal, Cheesy Bollywood i don’t care as long as it sounds good.

Even though i used the term ‘rap’ i have no problem with people like Grandmaster Flash, Eminem, A bit of Tupac because they had a message - whether through their experiences or life or whatever they also had VARIETY.

Korn, Mike shinoda, Rage against the machine all took elements of ‘rap’ fused in with something else and spat out something new and again something DISTINCTIVE that was also dripping with attitude. Snoop also i can make room for though i don’t like him i can see the charm.

It’s this modern hybrid of rap/hip hop/rnb that gets on my nerves and it’s being led by the likes of Kanye and Jay -Z. It’s no coincidence that this music has come to the top at the same time where a show like ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ can actually run on tv. But thats the a topic for another day.

Back on topic the narrative by Kanye is tiresome, All his songs are about materialistic wealth in the form of money, cars etc not to mention his objectification of women. ‘Do you know how many bitches i own’? What is that? Or Jay-Z ‘singing’ his usual garbage. Who the fk are these guys and why are they repeating the same stuff again and again. They have no musical talent to play an instrument live- that’s cool but for the love of god at least have some variety, I could really explain more but i’m sleepy and you get the point.

And if you want to quote a dickhead who sings about designer clothes and who thinks coldplay will go down in history on par with the beatles then whatever man, for your sake i hope you believe the shit the comes out of his mouth.

An entire generation is going to grow up listening to this, on how bitches, cars, money are the measure of a persons worth. Good luck to them and the ‘feel good’ factor it’s going to give them.

But what the fk do i know? they’re obv banging bitches and i’m staying with my parents.

I think you should try to listen to some of the songs not on the radio before you summarize an entire genre or an artist. If you followed Kanye’s career progression his arrogance has been earned many times over. In the beginning his music had political statements, spoke about insecurity, family issues and broke the mold of only gangster rap being mainstream acceptable. His style of rap IS the new mainstream. He deserves to have songs that celebrate his success.

I do think that the current state of rap is not the best. A lot of people want to rap about the success without having acheived it. There are still some who can tell compelling true stories while keeping the music fun: Drake, Kendrick, Pusha T and even Macklemore come to mind. If you want to experience what else is within the genre take a deeper look into some of their music.

Macklemore is intense during his live shows.
