Even if it turns out Trump is only worth $3 billion (not $10) or whatever… I find I hard to believe that someone that wealthy is going to be “compromised” over a secured commerical real estate loan even if it came from “shady Russian oligarchs bank LLC”… maybe a Russian lender financed a portion of one of his hotels/resorts… so what?
I’m sure a headline like “Trump owes Russians $100m in loans!” would be scandalous but clearly insignificant in the world of real estate. The fear (apparently) is that Trump is handing over the America’s sovereignty and national security in exchange for a building permit in Moscow. really?
After being accused during the campaign last year that “he doesn’t pay taxes”… a leaked old tax filing showed he actually paid something like $25m in one year and at a higher rate than Hillary or socialist crusaders like Bernie Sanders…

The Democrats actually have nothing else to do. They cannot influence any vote in Congress, so it’s pointless to participate in policy debate. What is left is for them to make noise and try to damage Trump’s reputation, so that hopefully, he will become less popular and less effective.
What if his loans are being forgiven by Russia? Surely he isn’t worth what he says, but I doubt that’ll change public perception (he already lost a lawsuit on this topic). What if his entire networth is financed by Russia? I’m surprised you can’t imagine a scenario in which they’d have leverage.
There’s a lot of reasons to look into his finances. It could be his properties are benefiting from his presidency (illegal), he could have dealings with Russians that they could potentially use as blackmail material, and there was that very strange statement by Trump in the Times article today about investigating his finances would be a “red line.” That’s not something a sitting president should say. That’s shady af.

I get the impression that President Trump cares very deeply for every single penny he has or has an opportunity to get. Although he doesn’t mind spending money to keep himself comfortable or to show off, I suspect he would sell the American people down the river for $100 if he thought he could get away with it.

Government is mostly useless and 3/4 of it should not exist. The best thing for the American people is a complete deadlock that prevents these assholes from stealing anymore money from our pocket.

Colin Powell did not admit to doing the same thing. He admitted to using a personal email account (think Gmail, AOL, etc.) while Secretary of State, not to setting up a private email server in his house. If there is a justifiable reason to want to look at those emails, DOJ can subpoena the provider and get them, just like they can get yours or mine. As was very widely reported in the news, when folks wanted to look at Hillary’s emails, all they could get was a server that was very thoroughly erased. I’m not judging either case, but they are very different.
