winter parka - american brands

How cold are you expecting things to get??

Canada Goose are often misused and have become a status symbol. Canada Goose is for the frozen tundra and not for Toronto.

Yes, this is why i want it.

dnt know dude… minus 5c or something…

Canada goose is basically a cheaper knock-off version of Moncler…

They are going to be out of fashion pretty soon and itll just be a massive coat in your closet when you move onto the next thing. They are solid jackets but pretty useless in most places that arent arctic tundra. I dont believe London qualifies and if you wanted us to just tell you to get a jacket that you want, sure get it. Its not the ideal garment for your area though.

So you are saying those skinny chicks don’t actually need $800 coats to walk 5-10 minutes in city streets? I do not know what to believe any more.

Not an American brand, but since you’re in UK have you checked out Quechua? I think it’s the private label brand for Decathalon. My BIL does a lot of hiking and is partial to Quechua gear.

Heyyyy! There are skinny chicks and there are skinny chicks. Not all of us are irresponsible with money. You guys are just programmed to notice those in fancy clothes

FTFY. Idk any guy who cares about women in fancy clothes. According to my gf any time she wears something expensive that I generally think looks terrible she informs me that girls mainly attempt to “dress cute” for themselves and for other girls. If they want to impress guys they just show more skin.

So you’re a poor skinny Russian chick?

i love watching people bring their $1,000 jackets to the dog park on a fall day and have a dirty dog jump on them…they all lose their shit. too funny

It does get cold in Toronto on occasion. Winter 2015 - there was not a day in february that was warmer than minus 20. This past year was mild as hell; i didn’t even need to break out the winter jacket

Well, the IPO story today likens Canada Goose buyers to Land Rover buyers. I thought that it was an apt comparison. People rationalize that it is rugged or whatever, but really is just another luxury good.

Oh man, the HAT! I forgot the hat!!!

I get that, but we were talking about the cold weather and coats, so it doesn’t really apply in this situation

I don’t care about *fancy* clothes, necessarily, but I definitely notice a woman that knows how to dress well. And no, that doesn’t always mean showing more skin.

The fancier or more expensive clothes tend to be cut better and tailored better, provided that the woman knows what cuts are most flattering. But plenty of women can spend $20 at H&M and find something that makes them look alluring.

But the dressing thing is big here in NYC and in most European capitals too. Out West, there’s not as much attention to this sort of thing, in my experience, which may be why men there think that the closer she is to a bikini, the more worth noticing she is.

Upscale clothing does frame the person in a higher affluence class. Whether this is attractive to males is debatable. However, clearly it matters somewhat in establishing pecking order, which is why women buy Louis Vuitton handbags or $1000 coats for that matter. Good taste can only go so far in overturning brand perceptions.

In that it costs the same and is made in brutal Canada instead of some France and parts of Germany?

I figure you gotta cut skinny girls in $1000 coats some slack. They have legitimately less body mass so I’d assume they do get colder. Also, I have an outer layer down coat from Mountain Hardwear that I’ve used on Mt. Washington in winter for when we stop climbing or I’m belaying that is good for just sitting around and staying warm down to probably -20 F for extended periods with 50 mph wind. If it’s freezing in the winter, I throw it on just to take the dogs out at night. It’s awesome, it can be -10F and I’ll have PJ’s on and it feels like I never even stepped outdoors. It looks ridiculous like I took a wrong turn summiting K2 but I don’t care.
